The 2017 NWBA National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament was held March 30 – April 2, 2017. Team Invacare was a proud supporting sponsor of the event.
A highlight of the event was the Wheelchair Basketball Clinic which was hosted by Invacare Top End. The clinic is designed to help identify up-and-coming divisions 1-3 athletes and give them the opportunity to train alongside Paralympians.
“The Basketball Clinic was an awesome event, bringing in over 40 prep level athletes and 25 varsity level athletes,” Pete Williams, Invacare Top End Business Manager said. “With five Paralympic athletes as coaches and additional NWBA player help, our clinic provided two full hours of intense drills, tips and pointers for these athletes.”
Among the Paralympic coaches at the clinic was Invacare Top End’s Engineering Manager and Paralympic athlete Paul Schulte.
There was plenty of action to watch at the tournament, including youth level teams and professional, such as the Cleveland Wheelchair Cavaliers.
During downtime at the event, athletes were able to stop by the Invacare Top End booth and get basketball wheelchair tune-ups, try out a handcycle or basketball wheelchair and check out the new küschall everyday wheelchairs.
“We love participating in this event and supporting athletes of all skills levels,” Williams said. “It’s powerful to see the passion and energy so many people have for the sport and staying active.”
